How to choose gear oil

High technology of lubricants production ensures trouble-free operation of all mechanisms of modern cars. First of all it concerns transmission oils.

The oil consists of a base and an additive package. In the process, the oil gradually loses its original properties: additives are produced and the protection of transmission parts deteriorates. In a running car, the temperature inside the box reaches +150 °C. Under these conditions, the old oil with used additives begins to foam and loses its lubricating properties.

Old oil in the box is not able to create a protective film on the rubbing parts — bushings, bearings and washers. They overheat, carbon deposits settle on them — and, as a result, gear shifting worsens. This may be indicated by the humming of gears gears while driving, and after 300-500 km after the appearance of a hum, a gradual destruction of gear teeth will begin.

The transmissions are fuzzily switched on or spontaneously switched off, the main gear is seized, the gears of the differential, and the transmission fails. In automatic transmission, foamed oil prevents the transmission of torque, and the car simply stops moving.

Oil change and the timing of their replacement

Many car owners, after reading the manufacturer's recommendations, come to the conclusion that the oil in the transmission does not need to be changed, as the manufacturer claims that it is designed for the entire life of the car. But all the recommendations apply only to the warranty period, which on average is 2-3 years. During this period, with a calm driving style, the oil retains all lubricating properties. Basically, the timing of the oil change (usually specified in the technical documentation of the vehicle). If such data is not available, or you do not know where the instruction was placed, it is recommended to change the oil in the manual transmission every 100,000 kilometers (approximately once every seven years), and in automatic transmission — after 90,000 kilometers (every six years), depending on regularity of operation.

Our recommendations: in time to monitor the replacement of oil in the gearbox. In conclusion. Choose oil for your car in accordance with the instructions for its use!
